FAQs

You can contact me by ringing 07902 409577 or by email mail@thatcakelady.co.uk. I will endeavour to reply to all enquiries as soon as possible.

How far in advance do I need to order my cake?

Ideally, 3 weeks notice is required for a celebration cake. Weekend dates are often more popular, so book as early as possible to avoid disapointment. However, even if your event is less than 3 weeks away, do contact me, as I may be able to accomodate you.

Wedding cakes require 4 months notice and can be booked up to a year in advance.

How many will my cake serve?

Most of the 3D cakes you see in my galleries will serve approx. 20-25 people, depending on design. They can obviously be made bigger if required.

For standard round or square cakes, please refer to the guide of my most popular sizes below. This is just a guide and based on quite a generous portion per person.

What style of cake can I have?

You are free to choose a design you have seen in my galleries or you are more than welcome to come to me with a design you have in mind. Alternatively, if you are stuck for ideas, I will happily design a cake for you.

How will my cake or cupcakes be presented?

All large cakes come boxed and are on an iced cake drum trimmed with co-ordinating ribbon. Cupcakes can be boxed together or there are many different packaging options if you want them presented individually. I can advise you on what would suit your needs best

How long will my cakes keep fresh for?

All of my cakes are baked to order and as with all fresh food, they are best consumed as soon as possible after cutting. However, stored correctly, your cake will stay fresh for up to 4 days. Keep sponges in an airtight tin and if this is not an option, wrap them in foil (paper napkins will draw the moisture out, making them dry). Rich fruit cakes should also be stored in a tin, but will last a lot longer than sponge. All cakes should be kept at room temperature and out of direct sunlight on a flat surface. Never refrigerate your cake.

How do I get my cake?

You are more than welcome to collect your cake at a pre-specified time from my home in Nailsea. Cakes like to travel on a flat service, making a car boot or footwell ideal. They do not like to travel on the passenger seat incase you have to brake suddenly!

I offer free delivery within Nailsea and I can deliver further afield for a pre-arranged fee. Wedding cake costs include delivery and set-up at the venue within a 10 mile radius of Nailsea.

Can I decorate my own cake?

Sure, if you want a 'naked' cake or a plain iced cake, get in touch for a price. Alternatively, I can decorate a cake you have baked!

Do you offer cake stand hire?

I do, see the pricing page for details. Stand hire is included in the wedding package prices, but can be hired for other orders too.

Do you bake anything other than cakes?

Indeed I do! I bake muffins, cookies, scones, biscuits, fridge cakes, tray bakes, the list goes on! Ideal for an office treat or coffee morning with the girls. Contact me with your requirements.

Gift Vouchers.

Gift vouchers are available and can be bought for a specific product or for a value. Vouchers are valid for 1 year and the recipient needs to book in with me in the normal way, at least 3 weeks notice is best. I can happily deliver vouchers locally if you live away from the area and include a gift card with a message if required.
